Cultivating Cultural Activists

The Beautiful Project’s Arts and Activism Youth Apprenticeship is focused on exploring cultural activism. This includes exploring Black feminist movements, reading, watching, and discussing Black feminist text and art, visiting TBP’s most recent exhibition at the North Carolina Museum of Art, and other experiments and activities.

Last year, our apprentices created a film to explore current methods of personal freedom for Black high school girls, gender fluid, and non-binary students in order to dream for the future of themselves and their community.

This year’s apprenticeship focuses on using art to explore radical healing and healing justice as it relates to Black girls, gender-expansive youth, and women in your community.

These apprentices will learn to use words and images as tools for understanding and confronting injuries related to gender, race, and identity in their community.
